Webb Simpson What’s In The Bag

Webb Simpson WITB

Webb Simpson has won two tournaments within a month of each other. This seems fair to me. Fair, of course, because the guy has a ton of talent and no doubt works very had to be good at golf and deserves to be rewarded for that talent and hard work with golf wins and large checks and everything else that comes from success on the PGA Tour. It’s fair in that way. It’s also fair in the cosmic way we humans enjoy thinking about, call it karma if you like or whatever other word that suits you. It’s fair because before these two wins, Webb Simpson was most likely well known to many of us for the penalty he called on himself on the 15th hole of the Zurich Classic some four months ago. The greens were very dry that day, and the conditions were very windy, and Webb Simpson was in contention during a final round and this was very important to him, I’m sure. He addressed his ball with his putter on the 15th green and for whatever silly reason that golf balls move without being touched — a gust of wind or a random force of gravity or a strangely bent piece of grass settling itself or just plain bad luck — Webb Simpson was forced into the awkward position of having to call a penalty on himself and basically end his chances of winning. It’s a dumb rule, and they’ve been working on fixing it even since, but at the time it was a rule all the same and Mr. Simpson did the gut-wrenchingly honorable thing and added a stroke to his score for something he didn’t do and didn’t have any control over. So it goes in the world of PGA golf. And so like I said, it’s fair that he locked down his second career win on Monday. It’s one of those things that feels correct and just and right. Here are the classy golf clubs the classy golfer used on his way to his classy victory:
