Luke Donald entered the first playoff hole of the BMW PGA Championship with quite a little bit at stake. A boatload of money, first place in the tournament, a ranking as the number 1 golfer in the whole entire world. No big deal, really. The same could be said for his competitor, fellow-Englishman, and Ping staffer Lee Westwood. Almost the exact same thing, actually. The only difference being that the number 1 ranking was Westwood’s to lose, and, as we all probably know by now, he did when his approach shot found the water, handing things over to Donald in a relatively stress free scenario.
And so, with a certain you-know-who off dealing with distractions and hurt knees and poor play, the movement at the top of the World Golf Rankings continues. Donald, with his steady play and deadly wedge play is now officially the one holding the crown. It’s hard to say it’s not well deserved, and below, we’ll examine some of the golfing equipment he used to get all the way to the top.
