The USGA, in conjunction with The R&A in St. Andrews, Scotland, writes, interprets and maintains the Rules of Golf to guard the tradition and integrity of the game. The two organizations are joint authors and owners of The Rules of Golf. Written in a very precise and deliberate fashion, The USGA Rules of Golf booklet enables you to learn and understand the definitions of common words used on the course. It also shows you which rules to apply to which situation. Carry a rules booklet in your golf bag and use it whenever a question arises. If in doubt, play the course as you find it and play the ball as it lies. Once back in the clubhouse look up your questions and help resolve any outstanding queries.
