Arnold Palmer may be gone but he is certainly not forgotten. “The King” died on September 25, 2016, at the age of 87.

Palmer transcended golf. He was a beloved sports legend and public figure in America and around the world.

One measure of his fame and legacy was reported on October 30. Arnold Palmer is near the top of the list of highest-earning dead celebrities of 2017, according to Forbes. Ranked No. 2 behind pop superstar Michael Jackson, the Palmer name was worth $40 million this year.

“Barely a year after his death, more than 400 stores still sell Palmer-branded apparel in Asia, and AriZona Beverages produces 400 million cans of its Arnold Palmer line annually,” wrote Forbes.

Palmer, of course, became the namesake of the refreshing drink that combines ice tea and lemonade, the “Arnold Palmer” (see video).

Palmer’s earnings put him ahead of other top-paid dead celebrities such as Charles Schulz, Elvis Presley, Prince, Dr. Seuss, John Lennon, Albert Einstein, David Bowie and Elizabeth Taylor.

Not bad for a golfer.
