“I’m Gladys,” she said.
Gladys was introduced as Savannah’s granny during a junior clinic at the 2018 Genesis Open. The elderly woman was invited to take a swing or two because golf is a game for all ages.
“How many want to see Gladys hit a golf ball?” asked the leader of the clinic.
Gladys whiffed on the first try. On the next swing, she made contact and received polite applause.
“I get to hit another one?” she asked.
Granny handed her purse to Savannah. What happened next shocked nearly everyone. CRACK. The golf ball rocketed toward the fence at the back of the range.
A cheer broke out. “Grandma! Grandma! Grandma! Grandma! Grandma!”
The granny was actually Troy Mullins in disguise.
Mullins is a long drive champion. She sat through four hours of prosthetics and Hollywood makeup to prepare for the prank. Judging from the smiling faces and loud outburst of cheers, it was well worth it.
About Troy Mullins
Mullins, 26, graduated from Cornell University with a major in China-Asia Pacific studies and international relations. A former track athlete, she visited the driving range with a friend and got hooked on the sport. She has gotten down to a 1 handicap. Her goal is to play on the LPGA Tour.
“I hit the ball like a guy, I guess.” Mullins told The Undefeated.
“But not any guys I know.”
Watch Troy do her thing at the Mile High Showdown.
She did it!
