Here’s some good news: The golf ball doesn’t know how old you are. There is no age discrimination. Especially if you’re Bernhard Langer.
It took four months and nine events, but the 60-year-old Langer is a winner again on the Champions Tour (aka PGA Tour Champions). Langer captured his first title of the season at the Insperity Invitational at The Woodlands Country Club in Texas. His 11-under total of 205 (63, 72, 70) nipped Paul Goydos, Jeff Maggert and Bart Bryant by a stroke.
The wire-to-wire victory wasn’t without Sunday drama. The German golf legend fell four strokes behind Goydos after carding three bogeys on the opening nine. Then, beginning at the 9th hole, Langer made four birdies the rest of the way to rally for the one-shot win.
“I was very, very fortunate in the end to pull this off. I’ve got a lot more gray hair right now,” Langer said.
It was the fourth time Langer has won the Insperity Invitational. The two-time Masters champion now has 37 victories on the senior circuit, second only to Hale Irwin’s 45 titles. In addition, Langer has won four times since turning 60.
Winning never gets old. Especially when the old keep winning.
