What’s in the Bag: Justin Rose Rises to World No. 3 With Victory at Fort Worth Invitational

0

Justin Rose won the Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial Country Club with a performance that might have brought a smile to the face of Ben Hogan, the placid golf legend who made Fort Worth his home and Colonial his golf playground.

Rose shot a 6-under 64 in the final round for a three-stroke victory over defending U.S. Open champion Brooks Koepka, who closed with a 63. The 37-year-old Englishman finished 20 under at Colonial, also known as “Hogan’s Alley” because Hogan won this tour event on five occasions.

“This is a special victory for me,” Rose said. “A tournament that I pick up the trophy and the first thing I saw was Ben Hogan’s name twice. It sort of says a lot.”

With his ninth PGA TOUR win, Rose made a significant move in the world golf rankings. Starting the week at No. 5, Rose slipped ahead of Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth to claim the third spot in the rankings behind top-ranked Justin Thomas and world No. 2 Dustin Johnson.

Rose’s game was clicking on all cylinders at Colonial.

PGATOUR.COM reported: “On a course that requires absolute precision, Rose was unflappable from tee-to-green, ranking first in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Strokes Gained: Approach the Green with an all-TaylorMade setup.”

Using muscleback blades, Rose hit nearly 80 percent of the greens in regulation, which is quite an accomplishment at Colonial, where the putting surfaces are small by PGA TOUR standards. Following is a look inside his bag.
