Complete Sets:
Complete sets are the all-in-one package for golfers looking for everything they need to hit the course as soon as possible. Most commonly, beginning golfers utilize complete sets as a way to get everything they need quickly and easily, but many experienced golfers can benefit from complete sets as well. Golfers who have been playing for a long time, but who have avoided upgrades in their golf clubs, might benefit greatly from a complete overhaul of their set. A complete set allows golfers of all skill levels the opportunity to experience modern, state-of-the-art design and technology in all their golf clubs, including a golf bag, for a fraction of what it would cost to purchase everything separately.
Junior Sets:
Junior clubs are a great way to introduce the game of golf to a young beginner, and come almost exclusively in a complete set. Junior sets usually feature less clubs than a standard set for ease of use, and also because most juniors don’t swing fast enough to produce noticeable distance gaps between clubs. The loft on a given junior club is typically a few degrees higher than an adult’s corresponding club, allowing young golfers to get the ball airborne easier and more often. Many junior sets have strongly perimeter-weighted clubs, allowing more forgiveness on mishits.
Beginner and Intermediate Sets:
Most complete beginner and intermediate sets have between 10 and 14 clubs and include a stand or cart bag. The composition between irons, woods and hybrids varies, but each set always includes a driver and putter. Intermediate sets are more likely to feature the full compliment of 14 clubs. Recently, many companies have begun to produce complete sets for teenage golfers, with lengths, weight, and technology to appeal to golfers who aren’t juniors, but aren’t quite ready for adult sized clubs. In general, longer irons are often difficult for beginners to hit and complete sets rarely include any low irons in the 2-4 range, instead including a comparable wood or hybrid that is easier to hit straight and long. Prices can vary dramatically between complete sets. If you are unsure of how much you will be practicing and playing golf in the future, the cheapest option might also be the best option. Golfers who are more confident that they’ll be playing and practicing often might benefit from a more comprehensive and expensive set.
How to Evolve Your Complete Set:
Complete sets have the unique advantage of being able to grow and evolve with you as your practice and play more. After you’ve purchased a complete set and improved your skills as a golfer, the time will come when you’ll want to start upgrading your beginner clubs for options better suited for experienced players. Changing clubs, while usually wonderful for your game in the long run, can be difficult in the short term as you get used to something new and different. Rather than overhauling each and every club in one complicated, stressful, and expensive move, your complete set will allow you to pick and chose individual clubs as the timing starts to feel right. Once your skills improve, it will start to be clear which clubs you wish you were getting more performance out of, and which clubs you’re happy with. It’s common to fall in love with a certain club in your bag; maybe you hit your 3-wood particularly well or have a lot of confidence with your irons. Keep those clubs in the bag and instead focus on upgrading your driver and putter, or maybe you’d like a new set of wedges for around the green. As you slowly upgrade your set piece by piece, eventually over time you’ll be working with a total set of individual components that don’t even resemble what you started with. With a complete set, it’s totally up to you which direction you’d like to go.
