Cameron Champ made birdie on 18 last Sunday to win the Safeway Open. The emotional Champ dedicated the tournament at the beginning of the week to his grandfather, Mack “Papa” Champ, after learning the elder Champ had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
This is Cameron’s second victory on the PGA Tour, but it will always be the most special. Champ reflected after the round saying, “I don’t know if it’s meant to be or what not, but to win here will probably go down as, no matter if I win one more tournament, ten more tournaments, whatever it may be, this will be the greatest moment in my golfing career. For sure.”
