TOUR Championship
The PGA Tour season has come to an end and a champion has been crowned. What began as a season filled with questions of doubt for Rory McIlroy culminated Sunday at the TOUR Championship in a triumphant victory and $15 million windfall.
In his post round interview on the 18th green, the FedEx Cup champion revealed the tribulations he’s fought through since losing to Tiger one year ago at Eastlake:
I must say, I didn’t enjoy that walk last year like everyone else did, I played terribly. I got myself into the final group and never took the fight to Tiger. You know, going up against the #1 player in the world today, you know, he got one over on me in Memphis and I wanted to sort of try to get some revenge today. So, to play like that, alongside Brooks and get the win, win the FedEx Cup umm… yeah, it’s awesome. It’s amazing how different things can be in a year.
Brooks Koepka was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year and rightly so based on his consistency all season long, but Rory’s final 2019 stats put him squarely in the conversation. In 19 events this season, McIlroy made seventeen cuts, finished in the top 10 fourteen times, and won three events.
Players don’t have long to rest up or make tweaks to their equipment, the new PGA Tour season begins in just two weeks at The Greenbrier.
