Big Bertha V Series Driver

The Fastest Bertha Yet

Distance comes in many forms, one of them is speed, and speed is the calling card of the new Big Bertha V Series Driver. Lots of speed. Built with lightweight materials, enhanced aerodynamics, and refined components, the Big Bertha V Series brings speed to the course, and distance to your game. Combining with the speed is high MOI forgiveness and OptiFit adjustability for the perfect fit to your swing, ensuring drives that launch at the proper angle and fly straight. The Big Bertha V Series Driver: Speed, Optimization, Bertha Long.

Speed Optimized Technology
  • A lightweight design starting at 290 grams. A lighter club helps create more clubhead speed, which helps create more ball speed, which helps you hit the ball a long way
  • Aerodynamic shaping lowers drag through the entire swing to give you faster swing speeds
  • Forged Composite material in the crown that’s lighter, leading to maximum clubhead speed for higher ball speed
Hyper Speed Face
  • There’s that word "speed" again. This proven face technology delivers higher ball speeds across the face so you consistently hammer long drives
  • Lighter, hotter (of course) and more robust to help produce those increased ball speeds
OptiFit Technology
  • An adjustable hosel that lets you choose from a combination of 8 different loft (-1, S, +1, +2) and lie angles (Draw or Neutral) to find your optimized trajectory and shot shape
Performance Lightweight Premium Shaft
  • One more way to maximize speed in the Big Bertha V Series – an ultra lightweight shaft
  • Bassara 42 gram shaft in 10.5 and 13.5 loft options
  • Speeder 565 in 9 degree loft option
  • Design Loft: Adjustable
  • Face Angle: Square
  • Lie Angle: Adjustable
  • Length: 45.5"
  • Volume: 460cc

Very Intersting Club
This big bertha in my mind is an interesting one in my opinion. Trying out this club the other day I figured out that interesting can also mean good and long, very long. The V-series has a rounder head than most drivers on the market right now, but gives off that easy to hit feel when swinging the club. The other interesting bit about this driver is how light it is, normally playing a 70 gram driver shaft trying the lightweight V-series took a few swings to get right, but when I did it jumped off the club face like a rocket. Callaway’s adjustable hosel is very easy to understand and I was able to fit myself in a very short time. Overall I don’t think this club is for me, but any amateur should give this club a try!

The Takeaway

The overall weight of the club is lighter (starting at 290 grams) to increase club head speed which is the key feature with the V series. The head offers a very clean, yet simple look at address, though the V Sole tends to make the toe stand up a touch at address. The face provided a very constant, solid feel throughout a wide area of the face, and I also found the V series to be very forgiving on the majority of my mishits, offering good feedback.

Who's It For?

Those with mid to lower swing speeds, who are not ready for the low spin, high-tech, adjust-this, adjust-that type of head will benefit from this easy to swing, forgiving head.

Final Take

As it was tested, I found the driver on the light side, and for my game this set up produced more spin and launch than needed. I was able to use the OptiFit System to reduce the loft a small amount, but not enough to see optimal results. Callaway does offer three different shaft weights with no upcharge if you prefer a heavier weighted shaft.
