Great Big Bertha Driver

Speed, Forgiveness, and Distance.

The Great Big Bertha Driver is back, and it represents the next frontier in driver design. This advanced adjustable driver has a light, fast, stable chassis unlike any other Callaway driver. It’s a technological breakthrough, and it’s built to get the most distance for ALL golfers. Leave no yard behind with the Great Big Bertha Driver.

Details

Simple Adjustability

Forgiveness and control from Adjustable Perimeter Weighting (APW), the 10 gram sliding weight on the perimeter of the clubhead adds stability, and the weight slides for more dispersion control to hit drives on line. Tests indicate that APW delivers up to 18 yards of direction-correction, which can dramatically tighten a player’s distribution, promoting more distance.

OptiFit Hosel

The OptiFit hosel lets you choose from 8 different configurations to tune loft, lie and face angle. With the OptiFit hosel appropriately configured to the needs of each individual player, the result is a high launch angle and low spin-rate, the launch conditions that promote maximum distance.

High Ball Speed From Next Generation R•MOTO Technology

To get every last yard out of your driver, you need more speed. R•MOTO Technology provides structure for a thinner face, leading to high ball speeds on center hits and off-center hits too.

Low Center of Gravity

Great Big Bertha features a sophisticated design that pulls the center of gravity low in the head and rearward, away from the center of the clubhead, to make it easier to launch the ball at a higher angle while keeping backspin to a minimum.

The Takeaway

The 2016 Great Big Bertha has some noticeable changes from the 2015 version, starting with the addition of Adjustable Perimeter Weighting. A 10 gram weight on the perimeter of the clubhead adds stability and offers the player a stronger fade or hook bias by simply moving the weight into a different position, all without sacrificing forgiveness. This head also has Callaway’s next generation R•Moto Technology, which provides a thinner face and produces higher ball speeds on all center and off-center hits. The aerodynamic head shape and multi-material composition allow for a lightweight club design that leads to higher club head speeds.

Who's It For?

Unlike the 2015 version, this year's model will fit a larger range of players due to a much lower spin rate. With an excellent range of shaft weights and designs this head really covers most any player, even tour players like Jim Furyk.

Final Take

I really like the changes done to this year's GBB. Its shape is more in line with the Alpha 816 than in previous versions. The head is somewhat shallow compared to most driver heads, and has a very narrow heel area that works to a much larger toe area. This gives the head the look that it’s quite upright at address. You cannot miss the “murdered’ black crown, better known as a flat black, dull finish. There is a Callaway chevron alignment aid on the crown and also it sits quite square at address.

This head produced a really solid feel and a very muted sound, I found both appealing. My launch angle and spin rate were excellent. I had a nice, penetrating flight that fits my eye to a tee. The Kura Kage Tini 50 shaft felt light but was easy to control. However, with a huge assortment of upgraded shafts and Udesign offered (you can customize the color of your own GGB driver), the 2016 GGB is a great new addition to the Callaway driver lineup.

Club Tested: Shaft: Mitsubishi Kura Kage TiNi 50; Flex: Stiff; Loft: 9°
