Callaway XR Fairway Wood
XR Fairway Woods
Unmatched Distance from Everywhere
Callaway started from scratch with the XR Fairway Wood, changing everything from the Face Cup to the shape to make golfers even longer than they already are. It’s led by a next generation Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup that’s up to 36% thinner, much lighter and has a bigger sweet spot to increase ball speeds across the face for greater distance and forgiveness that’s easy to hit.
More distance, lower spin and versatility are the highlights of adding a re-engineered Internal Standing Wave. And the completely redesigned shape provides a shallower face for increased forgiveness from the fairway.

Features
Higher Ball Speed And Forgiveness Across The Face
Callaway developed a lighter, thinner next generation Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup. It makes the face up to 36% thinner to increase ball speed. It’s not just speed, it’s forgiveness with a 16% larger sweet spot.
More Distance And Versatility For Any Shot A 20% lower CG, 200 rpm less spin and even more ball speed are what we get when we move the weight low and forward with our re-engineered Internal Standing Wave.
Completely Redesigned Head Shape You can see by the look of these clubs that they have flatter leading edges and a higher toe. The face height is shallower vs. X2 Hot for players who use these clubs mostly from the fairway.
Speed From Maximum Shaft Load The shaft is a key component to speed, that’s why we put in the new Project X LZ. It produces maximum shaft load during the downswing for greater energy transfer to the ball.

The Takeaway
The Callaway XR with its fixed hosel design is a simple, clean good looking fairway metal. No doubt a larger head than the BB 815 model, but nothing too big nor too small I felt. Most fixed hosel designs sit a tad closed to my eye and this is what I felt again. As for the feel the XR was about as solid as gets, and the ball felt like it was jumping off the face with a very muted sound. I have always been a fan of the Project X wood shafts and this one did not let me down one bit.
Off The Tee
Again, the XR produced a near perfect ball flight time and time again with that super solid feel. The flight was a tad high, but was so flat that this had to be at the top of the list distance wise.
Off The Deck
My test shots off the deck produced an eye popping ball flight that fit me to a tee and turn interaction was very clean for me.
Out Of The Rough
The XR shined again, and I had little issue getting the ball out of basic rough. Flight was a little low, but that is to be expected coming out the rough.
Who's It For?
Pretty much anyone will love the XR version, except those looking for more adjustability to really dial in their launch and spin numbers.
Final Take
One of my favorites tested to date. Easy to swing, great launch, feel, look, control, and distance. Should not be skipped when looking for a fairway metal.
