  • Being an absolute equipment junkie, I was approached by GolfDiscount.com to write reviews and share my findings with you. Having been chosen to write a number of Taylormade product reviews for GolfWRX.com I felt that this is an excellent opportunity to put my knowledge to use.

The Takeaway

Forged from 1025 Boron, a metal roughly 30% stronger than the 1025E steel, the JPX 900 Forged irons are designed to be thinner, hotter. The increased strength in the metal frees up precious weight to be more optimally distributed throughout the club head design.

The new Cortech Design is a Multi-Thickness Face that creates greater ball speed retention on off-center hits. The design is also oriented to optimize rebound and maximize ball speeds on impacts in the center of the face. This large rebound area combines to deliver a new level of COR in a forged iron design. The Pocket Cavity is redesigned from the last model and redistributes 21.5 grams to the Power Frame for forgiveness and stability.

Who's It For?

The JPX 900 Forged irons are calling out players who play irons with a stainless steel heads but their iron game is improving and they want to see what forged irons are all about. Scratch golfers to 18 handicaps.

Final Take

I really liked the past JPX 850 Forged irons but felt the toe and heel stuck out too much on the backside at address. The new JPX 900 irons have eliminated this by redistributing the weight from those areas. This not only makes the heads look better at address, but inspire better play better during my testing. I predict this will be one of the top Forged Players Cavity Irons on the market for 2016-17.

The head is super clean and not quite as dull as the JPX 900 Tour irons. Though their feel is not as buttery as the Tour irons, the JPX 900 Forged irons provide top notch forged feel and sound. The head size and aesthetics fit my eye perfectly and the ball flight and distance were excellent. The beveled leading edge on this model and the JPX 900 Hot Metal model will help players whose attack angles are a bit too steep and help prevent taking crater-like divots. A nice blend of weight in the heel and toe equal excellent forgiveness. These will be hard to beat and so far are one of my favorite heads on the market in 2017.
