M1 Driver

Performance for Every Swing.

Following more than two decades of advanced research and development, TaylorMade Golf, makers of the No. 1 driver in golf, have developed a multi-material combination of titanium and a seven-layer carbon composite to unlock their longest driver and most fittable product line in company history, M1™. In M1, engineers have created a line of drivers, fairways and Rescue® clubs designed to provide golfers with more ball speed, forgiveness and distance in TaylorMade's first-ever "unmetalwood" family.

Multi-Material Construction

The use of revolutionary carbon composite crown design in TaylorMade's new M1 driver resulted in a significant decrease in overall club weight and allowed engineers to lower the CG and add a revolutionary T-Track system that houses 25g of adjustable weight, enabling the golfer to personalize their driver more than with any product before. TaylorMade's research and development team's internal acoustic management techniques have led to the M1 driver's best in class sound, which has been meticulously crafted to control vibration and pitch at impact.

T-Track System

With the savings in discretionary weight from the seven-layer carbon composite crown, TaylorMade was able to introduce its revolutionary new T-Track system; one essential key to the M1's fitting performance. The M1 Driver features one 15g moveable weight in the Front Track, sliding from heel to toe, allowing golfers to adjust their draw or fade bias by up to 25 yards. Similarly, the Back Track on the M1 Driver allows the golfer 10g of moveable weight.

Previous drivers have allowed golfers to move weight from left to right and others from front to back, but with M1, golfers have the ability to adjust their fade or draw, while simultaneously personalizing their spin and forgiveness settings with the back track. With a plethora of possible fitting combinations, the M1 driver is TaylorMade's most fittable driver to date.

M1 has an incredibly low CG, lower than R15 in fact, which essentially projects at center face and increases the energy transfer at impact.

Design Aesthetics

Designed and built to be the best performing golf products in the world, M1's engineers also sought the perfect blend of form and function in the club's aesthetics and club alignment. The endeavor brought forward the authenticity of the club's materials in a way that produced the most effective, visually appealing alignment system of any TaylorMade product to date. The combination of the black face, white forward section and composite rear of the M1's crown is not only visually attractive, but provides golfers with a confidence-inspiring alignment aid at address.

Personalization

The 12 position loft sleeve provides up to four degrees of loft adjustment, the T-Track can be set for more/less draw/fade and higher/lower trajectory; Combined with a choice of over 30 shaft offerings the TaylorMade M1 can be customized to get the most out of your game and ultimately, lower scores.

Very reliable!
Taylormade M1 Driver
I love the driver the option to customize shaft is really amazing and Taylormade did a wonderful job on this club. The one thing I do have to complain about is it took an extra week to get my club to me because they didn't let me know the tour shaft I ordered had to be sent from the taylormade factory.
M1Driver
IMO, the TM M1 Driver performs better then previous TM Models. Overall 3-5% longer from the sweet spot with a stiff, mid-launch shaft. Straighter and easier to fade or draw from neutral/standard settings. As with any club, being properly fitted improves performance and saves time, effort and frustration.

The Takeaway

The new M1 driver is now a multi-material head with the addition of a carbon fiber crown section, saving about 6 grams of overall weight. With enhancing launch conditions in mind, this weight reduction in the crown allows Taylormade to redistribute those 6 grams into the new T-Track system creating an even lower Center of Gravity. The front track of the T-Track system allows players to move 10 grams of weight across the face setting up a max Fade or Draw Bias, or anything inbetween. The 10 settings inside of the two polar settings reduce the bias, or on the center setting, create a True Neutral Bias. The front to back Track is also new, which allows players to move a 15 gram weight towards the back of the head or towards the face. Moving the weight towards the face creates a Low Forward CG which reduces spin and loft. Moving it back creates a higher spin rate (about 300 rpms) and a higher launch angle.

Who's It For?

The new M1 460 driver will accommodate a large group of players. The addition of the T-Track system will allow the majority of players in need of a more Rear CG driver over Taylormade's previous Forward CG only drivers like the SLDR and R15. Better players looking to reduce spin while maintaining optimal launch conditions will take full advantage of the front to back weight. By moving it towards the face they'll reduce their spin rate with a slight increase of loft over the SLDR ad R15. Those with slower swing speeds will need to make sure that they have the proper shaft, and can choose from 28 no upcharge shafts offered with the new M1 Driver.

Final Take

The addition of carbon fiber to the crown creates a stunning visual effect and produces a super easy alignment to the ball. The white on the crown is a glossy white, which creates a bit of a shine, but looks great next to the rich carbon fiber. The sound and feel have also changed for the better. There is less of a "tin" or "pinging" noise at impact, it had a much more muted sound which was very appealing to the ears. With the addition of stabilizing bars inside the head the feel as well is quite different, and the carbon fiber will dampen the feeling to your hands.

The ball felt lively coming off the face, but not in a sense of jumping off the face. Visually, with a very swept back crown, slightly deeper face, and a flatter sole than past offerings the head shape seems more aerodynamic. The ball flight was excellent! The M1 produced a nice, mid-high flat trajectory with good rollout. Even with the COR restrictions, some players will see gains in distance with the proper set up that matches their swing styles.

I had some minor control issues during my testing. I attribute this to simply not having enough time to dial it in 100%, but I feel confident that I could dial it in fairly quickly based on some shots that I hit. Taylormade now is offering consumers various shaft options ranging from lower to mid and higher launch characteristics. With 28 shafts available without an additional upcharge players will have no problem customizing the M1 Driver to their personal specifications.
