No golf ball has ever done better business than the Pro V1, and for good reason! It’s predictable, consistent, and feels amazing.

But, it’s not the only golf ball that checks those boxes these days. Here are some options for if you want to play a tour-quality golf ball but don’t quite vibe with a Pro V1 or Pro V1x..

TaylorMade

TP5 / TP5x

The TP5 line is ideal for a golfer who either finds Pro V’s to be either too firm or too soft. (So, you either hit too hard or not hard enough.) The TP5 is an ideal option for you if you need something just a touch softer for the sake of gaining spin, whereas the TP5x is one of the premier super-low-spin balls on the market. Ideal for if you have a 160+ ball speed and lose some distance due to overspinning the ball.

Srixon

Z-Star / Z-Star XV / Z-Star Diamond

The Srixon is a great alternative to the Pro V at a just slightly lower price point. The Z-Star and Z-Star XV perform very similarly to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x respectively, and the Z-Star Diamond is comparable to the Pro V1x Left Dash and Pro V1 Left Dot (and the TP5x) for lower spin and flight patterns. The Q-Star Tour is a fantastic alternative for players with less swing speed who still want the soft feel of Srixon’s Spin Skin urethane cover.

Bridgestone

Tour B X / Tour B XS

Bridgestone keeps it simple: they make two balls for swing speeds above 105mph and two balls for swing speeds below 105. The Tour-B X is their firmest golf ball, with very low launch and spin metrics; the Tour-B XS is softer, with higher launch and spin and very soft feel. For the sub-105 crowd, the RX and RXS combine high spin and soft feel with some extra pop off the tee. Deciding which of these balls to play is similar to the Taylormade balls: X if you need a very firm ball and don’t need help spinning it, XS if you do need help spinning it and hitting it higher.

Callaway

Chrome Soft / Chrome Tour

The Chrome Soft is simply one of the best golf balls out there. It combines the high-speed performance of a tour-level ball with a higher flight and spin window for more distance off the tee and stopping power on the greens. The Chrome Tour, Chrome Tour X, and Chrome Tour ♦♦♦ each progressively lower the launch and spin windows while progressively getting firmer. The Chrome Soft is one of the most playable balls out there, but Callaway provides several strong options!

Wilson Staff

Staff Model / Triad

The Wilson Staff golf ball is one of the most underrated on the market. The Staff Model is unreasonably soft for the distance and height you can get off the tee and into the green, and the Staff Model X combines slightly more long-game spin with high speed for lower hitters. The Triad is their softer three-piece ball but, like the Chrome Soft, it plays nicely for a wide variety of skill levels and swing speeds.

When it comes to choosing the right ball for you, its best to choose a ball you can rely on that won’t let you down, even when you’re not playing at your best.

I’ve tried all these balls and realize that the ball isn’t the problem.. it’s simply me. I have to stick to junk balls until I figure out what I’m doing wrong lol

The Srixon Soft Feel ball serves me best with an 85 to 90 swing speed, love the way it performs with my 23 HI.

I can’t afford $50+ on a dozen balls at the rate I lose them 😄
I’ll stick with the mid level TaylorMade, Srixon & Vice balls. I usually wait until there is a multi dozen deal, and buy a years worth.
