Aaron Rai Captures First Major Title with Stunning PGA Championship Victory
Aaron Rai delivered the performance of his career Sunday, winning the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club and claiming his first major championship.
Rai entered the final round just a few shots off the lead in a crowded leaderboard, but the Englishman separated himself on the back nine with a fearless finish. A long birdie putt on the 17th hole all but sealed the victory as he closed with a 5-under 65 to finish at 9-under for the tournament. The win made Rai the first English player to win the PGA Championship since 1919 and marked one of the biggest breakthrough moments of the golf season.
The victory is the latest milestone in Rai’s steady rise through professional golf. After turning pro in 2012, the Wolverhampton native built his reputation on the DP World Tour, winning events such as the 2020 Scottish Open, before eventually earning his PGA Tour card. He broke through in America with his first PGA Tour victory at the 2024 Wyndham Championship, and now adds a major title to his growing résumé at age 31.
For years, Rai was viewed as one of golf’s most underrated players. After Sunday at Aronimink, he’s officially a major champion.
